Nach ihrem Meisterwerk Asleep In The Back, das für viele Kritiker und Fans mit zu den herausragenden Platten von 2001 gehört hat, meldet sich die britische Band Elbow mit einem neuen Album zurück. Wer die verschachtelten Popkompositionen, die mal an Kollegen wie Radiohead erinnern, mal ältere Prog-Rock-Zeiten (allerdings ohne den damals üblichen pathetischen Bombast) heraufbeschwören vom Erstling mochte, wird auch an Cast Of Thousands seine Freude haben. Man habe sich bei diesem Album auf die Suche nach neuen Klängen gemacht, erklärt Sänger Guy Garvey, der Kopf des Quintetts aus Manchester. Neue Sounds heißt hier, dass man verstärkt mit Chören arbeitet, sich von Jimi Hendrix oder dem blinden Bluessänger Snooks Eaglin inspirieren lässt. Von der Grundstimmung her dunkler und melancholischer als bei Asleep In The Back, dazu eher ruhig, driften Elbow durch das Dutzend Songs...
