So beschreibt das Szenemagazin Waxpoetics aus Brooklyn den Sound der "Antiken Astronauten". Doch wie kommt es, dass ein New Yorker Journalist sich mit zwei Kölner DJs beschäftigt? Das liegt natürlich in erster Linie an dem coolen Sound, den Kabanjak und Dogu, die Ancient Astronauts, produzieren: Eine Vision von HipHop & Rap, die sich inspirativ stark bei Funk, Reggae, Jazz, Dancehall, Dub, sowie Beats und Samples aus der großen weiten Welt speist. Aber davon hätte in den Staaten bestimmt keiner etwas mitbekommen ' schon hier in heimischen Gefilden sind die Ancient Astronauts eher ein Geheimtipp ' wenn da nicht das weltweit wohl geschätzte Produzenten-Duo Thievery Corporation den zwei Kölnern unter die Arme gegriffen bzw. sie in ihre Arme geschlossen hätten. Für die Astronauts ist es definitiv ein Jackpot, dass deren Label Eighteenth Street Lounge "Into Bass And Time" veröffentlicht. Ihre Musik ist ähnlich weltoffen und groovig wie die von Thievery Corporation, aber nicht so chillig, locker-flockig, sondern druckvoller, direkter und manchmal gar ein bisschen böser. Ein Sound, der sowohl Street Credibility als auch Anerkennung im intellektuellen Szene-Club-Life ernten dürfte.
