"Take Me Back" is a true showcase of Nelsen's vocal ability as well as showing off his songwriting skills, and his proficiency on guitar, harp and piano.
His latest album is definitely his best!
Take Me Back is like taking a 40 minute vacation to the Big Easy. Nice comfortable grooves that fit like an old glove. Nelsen's vocals are up front on this one more than his earlier albums. You can hear every tone from the growls to the subtle whispers, including some chewing gum pops in between. Nelsen chews while he sings There's a smokin trade off between Nelsen's harp and Steve Gabil's guitar on the title track Take Me Back. A great send up to Professor Longhair on The Professor Is In This cut shows Nelsen has some solid chops on the piano. We also get a rare glimpse of his talents on lead guitar on Blues All Night. Take Me Back is the best album Nelsen has produced so far. I recommend without hesitation.
