Artikelbeschreibung
In the 1930s young British physician Kit Masters comes to the South Sea Island of Koraloona to practice. Kit falls in love with Aleena, granddaughter of Paul Gauguin and a Polynesian princess, and the island and its people become his home and family. He longs to give Koraloona the modern medical care it desperately needs, and he and his boss, Scottish doctor Alec Reid, dream of turning the tiny mission clinic into a full-fledged hospital. A secret cache of Gauguin paintings may provide the funding, but one crisis after another, a cholera epidemic, World War II, a vicious vendetta by Aleena's half-Japanese stepfather, and the deadly legacy of the Bikini atom bomb tests creates obstacles. If the prose style reads like a condensed version, it never detracts from the exciting events being described.
